In this post, we’ll examine the major expenses associated with various modes of transportation so that you may choose your next vehicle with more money to spare.

How much does it cost to operate a car?

When comparing prices, eBikes and eMopeds are typically used in addition to or in place of a car. Due to ULEZ and congestion fees, cost reductions are considerably larger in cities like London.

We utilised Nimble Fins and the Fleet News calculator to figure out the costs for this story.

Typically, a modest gasoline or diesel car will cost 18p each mile. This contrasts with a cost of about 7p or 1p per mile for an electric car or moped, respectively.
This does not include additional elements like upkeep, insurance, depreciation, road tax, etc. In light of this, a Nissan Micra powered by gasoline will cost about 30p per mile compared to an electric vehicle’s 35p (due to higher purchase prices).

Compare this to other forms of transportation.

Despite having lower fuel costs per mile than other options, electric automobiles are nonetheless expensive to buy and still contribute significantly to traffic congestion.

How much does it cost to operate a moped?

On a single tank, a basic 50cc petrol moped can travel about 100 miles.

With a 5-litre capacity and the current May 2022 gasoline price of £1.70, a fill-up will cost about £8 or £9.

With a cost per mile of 7 or 8p, an electric automobile is comparable. An electric moped like the NIU MQi GT EVO, on the other hand, can travel about 50 kilometres on a single 1800Wh battery.

Rising fuel prices push commuters from cars to bikes
An entire charge will cost around 50p, or 1p every mile, at the cost of 28p per power kWh. Electric mopeds require significantly less maintenance than their gas equivalents, therefore you will also need less upkeep and save money.

How much does it cost to operate an eBike?

Let’s now examine the electric bike. The cost of a full charge for a 500Wh battery is approximately 15p.

With a range of approximately 50 miles and some work from your legs, the cost of each mile is only 0.3p.

How much could you save if you used an eBike instead of a car?

A lot of people consider electric bikes to be an alternative to bicycles.

However, a number of studies have revealed that individuals use electric bikes more frequently than bicycles due to the added convenience and security that comes with having a supporting engine, and they also replace more automobile trips.

According to a study conducted in Norway from June to November over a period of six months, people who switched from a standard bike to an eBike increased their daily cycling distance from 1.4 miles to up to six miles. This represents a growth of almost 4 times.

Intriguingly, they used bikes for 49% of all trips, up from 19%, which decreased the amount of time they spent in cars.

Here, five-mile journeys can be made more conveniently on a bike as an alternative to brief vehicle visits. Instead of totally replacing, fuel can be saved when it can be. Many of our customers opt to sell their second car and get an electric bike instead.

    Advantages of an eBike

    More exercise activity

This behaviour is supported by a second European study of over 10,000 riders from various nations, which found that due to greater total usage and greater distances travelled, eBike users, obtain more exercise than regular bicycle users. This was greatly influenced by confidence. Longer distances can be travelled without being in danger or becoming too exhausted to return home because the battery and motor will help you ascend hills. They fill a huge void for those who don’t ride bicycles or are less self-assured, which is the majority of people.

    Most minimal carbon footprint

Due to the riders consuming less food, an investigation by Bike Radar also showed that electric bikes have a lower carbon footprint than bicycles. In comparison to eBikes, conventional bikes produce 21gCO2e every kilometre. Within the UK. SAMEBIKE MY275 All Terrain Electric BikeIn comparison, an electric automobile would emit roughly 50g. As we can see from the chart above, switching from a gas-powered car to an electric bike will result in the most savings. Of course, this cannot be done for every journey, but it is not required. For some trips, using an eBike instead of a car will still result in significant financial savings and improve your health!
